Position Title: Assistant Professor, one person
Affiliation: Research Institute for Electronic Science, Hokkaido University
Job description: Research and education on the development of advanced optical and information technologies for life sciences and their applications in Prof. Hideharu Mikami’s group.
Holding or being expected to hold a Ph.D. or doctoral degree.
Having a strong track record and expertise in one or more of the following fields: optics, informatics, and life science.
Being willing to work on the development and applications of advanced optical techniques (e.g., fluorescence microscopy, optogenetics) and/or data analysis methods (e.g., image analysis, analysis of neuronal activities) for studies using model organisms such as mice. (However, experience in such research is not required.)
Being able to carry out research in collaboration with researchers of other specialties within and outside the research group, as necessary.
For example, we assume, but do not require, that candidates have experience in the following types of research. The research projects of the hired candidate will be determined based on his/her motivation and the direction of the research group.
Research in the field of optics, such as optical microscopy, spectroscopy, and computational imaging.
The development of data analysis methods for biological images, neural activity data, etc.
Research using advanced optical imaging techniques (e.g., fluorescence microscopy) in any field of life science such as neuroscience, developmental biology, and cell biology.
Expected Start Date: September 1st, 2022, or later.
Employment Status: The employment period cannot exceed 5 years from the initial date of hire (Reappointment for 3 years is possible depending on the results of an interim evaluation).
